Born into a family of artists, Swapneel discovered his love for painting early in life. Today, as a leading scientist on laser-based velocimetry at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, he turns to art as a counterbalance to the intensity of advanced scientific research. “Painting is my stress relief,” he says. “It’s where precision meets freedom.”
His work blends naturalistic expressionism with elements of Indian heritage, often evoking the dynamism of space, motion, and energy. “Science and art aren’t opposites,” he reflects. “Both seek to decode the universe—one through equations, the other through color.”
Swapneel’s paintings have been exhibited in select shows in Canberra and Sheffield, UK, and he continues to present his work on national and international platforms. “My brushstrokes are like solving equations,” he laughs. “Except here, the answers are emotions
